Research at Harihari field station
The Harihari (Charles Foweraker) field station was established to support teaching and research on sustainable forest management, logging of indigenous forests and ecology on the West Coast. Harihari is no longer a centre of the timber industry but provides access to a wide variety of habitats with Lake Matheson and the Franz Josef glacier nearby.
The station is mainly an accommodation building of two floors with seven bunkrooms on the upper floor accommodating up to 31 people. There are some basic working areas on the west wall of both levels. Anyone wishing to establish long term research programs are advised to contact the Field Services Manager and discuss their requirements.
